Leaving the blinding sand for the cool shade of the trees, I walked carefully through the undergrowth to where Dave, using two twigs as chopsticks, was picking up a freshly severed human finger! John's trip to India starts badly when he finds himself looking at the sharp end of a knife in a train station cubicle. His life is saved by the enigmatic Rick, who persuades John to abandon his mundane plans for the future for much, much more. Fast forward to the Thai island of Koh Pha-Ngan where they pose as millionaire aristocrats in a hedonistic Eden of beautiful girls, free drugs and wild beach parties. Soon pursued by Thai Mafia, they escape to Indonesia, Australia and Hong Kong, facing danger at every turn.networks, and the broader context within which they are embedded, influence the choice of policy when change has been put on the agenda. It criticizes the existing network literature for being predominately descriptive, for having little to say on the choice of policy and for omitting the analysis of the broader political structures which have consequences for meso-level policy making. In order to reinforce the explanatory power of policy network analysis, the book develops both a meso and a macro-level theoretical model. This helps to explain why policy change is more radical in some settings than in others. The theoretical arguments are tested by the use of detailed comparisons of agri-environmental policy making in Denmark and Sweden and of agricultural policy reforms in the European Union and Sweden.

Policy networks - a critical review; policy networks and policy change - a meso-level analysis; moving beyond meso-level analysis; classifying policy reforms and new policies; Danish and Swedish nitrate policies; agricultural policy reforms in the European Community and Sweden; cohesion of agricultural policy networks; farmers' structural power in parliament and state structures; conclusion - a defence of policy network analysis.
