How do you actually meet a good book?
When you walk into a bookstore, the sheer volume of the number of books on the shelves can sometimes be too many that you’d be at a loss on how to go on – let alone find a book you’d want to take home with you.
However, that does not mean that you’d never come across a worthy book, for just like people, they pop up in the most unexpected places. For example, if you read more, you’d have better chances of finding a favoured read. Or if you visited a bookstore more often, and spent more time there, you may even serendipitously stumble upon one or two.
But if you haven’t the time nor the sheer luck to have books dropping on your lap, your best option is to meet one (be it a person or a book, that is), through an introduction from friends or like-minded people. This is especially indispensable, when you’re still new to a particular subject or genre – a good recommendation will lead the way.
Now where else would you meet a good book, on various genres, touching on the most current affairs and ideas than through the people who shelf the books, read the relevant ones and trawl through all the book reviews? Please step this way and let us have the honour of introducing you to a few good books.
